Hey, as I’m sure you are aware by now, I’m Kerrie Biehl. I found my niche – spinning tales of true mates and simmering passions that’ll quicken your pulse (it certainly quickens mine. 😉). With a touch of sass, I pour my heart into crafting stories that pack a punch. But hey, I’m not just about creatures of the night! Nope, you’ll also find me rocking out with my band, Twisted Knickers, belting out tunes like there’s no tomorrow, hanging with my furry companion, Strider, and diving headfirst into a life filled with more excitement than words can capture with my alpha male, Gary.
Let’s rewind to the crayon days
Imagine me in kindergarten, armed with my trusty crayon, sketching away like a mini artist. My love for PNR and romance started young – even back then. And let me tell you, that memory is etched into my mind like it was yesterday.
Growing up was an adventure, growing up in the Pacific Northwest with my brother Chris. Yeah, we had our moments (who doesn’t with siblings?), but we had a blast. Fast-forward a bit, and sexy vampire aficionado Serena Zane was born—my alter ego and pen name (back in the day). But after spinning countless enchanting tales under that alias, I figured it was time to embrace my real name. And Mom? She was thrilled about it.
What fuels my creativity
Let’s get down to it: PNR books are my passion. I mean, who can resist the allure of magic, mayhem, and steamy passion? My fascination with the paranormal stems from growing up in the forested Pacific Northwest, watching horror movies with my best friends, and stealing the books from mom’s Harlequin “Book Stash,” you know, the huge collection of romances by her bed in a paper bag just waiting to be read. Suspense and supernatural beings captured not only my heart but also my imagination.
After delving into criminal justice studies (and jumping at everything that went bump in the dark while doing homework), I felt compelled to weave suspenseful romance tales. I ran into a block, though; you see, my first four books were contemporary romances, not a vampire to be found. It took a remarkable writing workshop with Jayne Ann Krentz to set me on the path of paranormal romance.
And let’s be honest here: my bookshelf is basically a shrine to PNR and urban fantasy romances. My mission as a writer? To serve up captivating tales for all you PNR aficionados out there with a side of lust. Oh, and those alpha heroes? You bet I’ve got a soft spot for them (hey there, Chris Hemsworth).
Putting words to paper (or fingers to keyboard)
As a sassy pantzer author (yeah, I fly by the seat of my pants), I live for PNR books. Sprint writing sessions, fueled by Menage-a-Trois Midnight wine and the occasional nibble of fruit or dark chocolate; I like jerky, too. I’m talking free writing for 15 minutes, followed by a 5-minute breather, rinse, and repeat. And hey, November? You’ll find me knee-deep in Nanowrimo, churning out 50,000 words like it’s nobody’s business. But let’s be real, adulting? Sometimes, it slips my mind amidst the whirlwind. Recently, I have learned what it is to work with a disability, and now I use a text-to-speech program to do most of my writing. I can’t use my left hand for more than 5 or 10 minutes without losing control of my motor functions in that hand. And hello, Dragon Naturally Speaking enters my life! Do you know how much fun it is to say that I am “training my dragon” whenever my husband asks me what I’m doing?
Let’s talk favorites
Christine Feehan? Total goddess in my book writes amazing stories that I can’t wait to get my greedy little paws on. Music? It’s my lifeblood – violin’s my weapon of choice, but catch me jamming on the mandolin and baritone uke with my Twisted Knicker crew while singing toe-tapping tunes and beautiful ballads. Shoutout to David for keeping us in sync – rhythm is not my forte. And kudos to our other bandmate, Quille, who keeps us in tune and herds us cats. TV obsessions? Pre-Elena-exit Vampire Diaries still holds a special place in my heart, but The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina? Currently stealing the show. Family and sharp objects? Yeah, true loves of mine – love you to Gary, Strider (my adorable service dog), thanks for keeping me upright, and Schrodinger, our parkour kitty.
I can’t wait to get to know you all!
